Autoneum is the world’s leading automotive supplier for acoustic and thermal management in vehicles: The global BI project emerged with the introduction of SAP R3 and the resulting global and cross-functional reporting requirements. The options were SAP BW, Oracle and Microsoft. After a comprehensive evaluation with the participation of the CFO, Finance & Controlling, HR, IT and Purchasing corporate divisions, it was decided from a corporate strategy perspective to meet the requirements with a global Microsoft enterprise data warehouse and Microsoft BI in general.

Solution at a glance

Given these antecedents, the objectives of our global BI project were largely clear. One of the goals was to provide a uniform BI reporting and self-service BI tool environment in a standardized, interactive and consistent manner, globally and based on Microsoft. Above all, data from various functions must be able to be evaluated across the board. As a result, the first step was to load data from accounting, consolidation, cost accounting and production into the Enterprise Data Warehouse (E-DWH). Based on this, a centralized OLAP data marketplace and ad hoc assessments were created for advanced users. Other data marketplaces for specific requirements are derived from E-DWH. This way the “one point” approach is always maintained.

The promotion and implementation of International Business Communication Standards (IBCS) in board and management reporting was the primary goal. “Focus on what really matters” – Conceptual, perceptual and semantic rules shape the entire reporting system. Support for color and notation concepts, as well as standardization of graphic representations, is essential.
